mission
Buildingways creates ✊🏽Youth Friendly Cities📍
Teen mental health is a public health crisis. Our cities have the power - the property, programs, and policies - to help. Our youth have the vision, the voice and the ambition to create the embracing cities they need today.
We envision ✊🏽Youth Friendly Cities📍that welcome youth, support youth culture, and resource youth-led efforts to address their own challenges.
Buildingways catalyzes youth-led civic transformation with:
- organizational structure: we provide the insurance, bank account, administrative support, and space so youth may leverage the full power of an adult-run organization
- experiential-learning: we sponsor a teen-led out-of-school studio, SHADE, to produce year-round events and build seasonal "parkitecture" - temporary, teen-led, public park installations 2-min movie 🎬
- curriculum: we are developing an 8th grade civics curriculum pilot to ensure youth voice and youth data guide city planning and decision making
- policy: we believe Cambridge should be the next, U.N. accredited, Child Friendly City
